HSBC, the Hongkong and Shanghai Banking
Corporation Limited in Bangladesh has organised a seminar titled “Road to
Automated Payment Platform in Bangladesh: Present and Future Outlook” in
Chittagong, Bangladesh.
The programme which highlighted HSBC’s
expertise in Global Payments and Cash Management also covered a key note
presentation on “Digital Evolution in Banking landscape of Bangladesh” by
Khandaker Ali Kamran Al Zahid - Deputy Director, Payment System Department,
Bangladesh Bank, which has started in 2010 with introduction of automated
cheque clearing, followed by electronic fund transfer network (BEFTN), mobile
financial services, national payment switch and the upcoming RTGS (Real-time
Gross Settlement)” due in October 2015.
A Panel discussion on "Digital
Evolution in the Banking landscape of Bangladesh and the Role of HSBC" was
participated by the regulators, clients and HSBC’s internal presenters.
Francois de Maricourt, Chief Executive
Officer, HSBC Bangladesh spoke at the programme and commented, "HSBC’s
e-banking platforms enable customers to make seamless payments between countries
and currencies; providing businesses greater control over cash and collection,
and helps customers manage liquidity efficiently. I believe this seminar will
further enhance knowledge on automated payment platforms, its present and
future outlook in Bangladesh."
Both Chief Guest, Mr Subhankar Saha,
Executive Director, Bangladesh Bank, Dhaka Head Office and Special Guest, Mr
Mijanur Rahman Joddar, Executive Director, Bangladesh Bank, Chittagong Office
highlighted regulator’s intend and journey to digitise the banking industry to
boost interbank electronic payments and financial inclusion and help grow the
economy. They have appraised HSBC for organising the event in their speeches.
Amongst others Ms Jishan Shamsad- Country Head, Global payments & Cash
Management, Riaz A Chowdhury, Country Head of Large Corporates, Commercial
Banking, HSBC Bangladesh spoke on the occasion.
The
programme was attended by HSBC customers, senior officials from Bangladesh Bank
and HSBC officials. The programme was followed by a cultural event and business
